Originally known as punchus, the poncho was one of the typical clothes of the Paracas, a pre-Inca culture from around 500 B.C. Many many many years later, surfers started to embrace ponchos, as early as the 1950's, as they were a warm garment to throw on when the sun went down and it started to get cold at the beach.
