A legend in street skateboarding Eric Koston is no run of the mill name. This Street League competitor has revolutionized street skateboarding helping shape it as we know it today. The list of Eric Koston’s sponsors are impressive, with names like Nike SB, Girl, Independent Trucks, Spitfire wheels and more, he also helped create the infamous Berrics park, co-owns his own clothing company called Fourstar Clothing and has his own signature Nike SB Eric Koston skate shoe and line of Girl skateboard decks.
In 1975 Eric Koston was born in Bankok, Thailand, at 8 months old his family moved to Los Angeles, California where he grew up. At age 11 he began skateboarding with his older brother and friends, within 7 years he became a professional. In 1996 Eric Koston took home Thrasher’s award for “Skater of the Year”. Throughout his career Eric Koston has starred in many roles in skateboarding cinema that helped define street skateboarding, including his performance in “Fully Flared” by Lakai Footwear and Girl Skateboards that won Transworld Skateboarding “Best Video of the Year” award in 2007. Eric Koston also stars in Girl Skateboards and Chocolate Skateboard’s film “Pretty Sweet” where he continues to show off his seemingly effortless skill with his fine tuned tricks and smooth style. One to keep moving with the times, Eric Koston was on the roster for the first time ever pro tour called Street League in 2010 and has been skating with Street League since.
Eric Koston joined the Nike SB team and was one of three skateboarders to receive a signature shoe line, the Nike SB Eric Koston. The skateboarding shoe Nike SB Eric Koston was the first line of shoes from Nike SB to feature Lunarlon, a special lightweight foam designed for running shoes to help improve impact support while keeping the shoe lightweight to maintain performance. Following the lead of the Nike SB Eric Koston, many other Nike SB skate shoes begin to utilize Lunarlon. Along with a signature shoe Eric Koston also has a variety of Girl skateboard decks featuring personalized Girl and Koston graphics. Another noteworthy accomplishment is the Fourstar Clothing company that was founded by Eric Koston and Guy Mariano in 1996. The idea behind Fourstar Clothing was both Eric and Guy didn’t have any apparel sponsors, so they set out to develop their own apparel including tees, shirts, hoodies and more, centered around skateboarding. In 2007 Eric Koston teamed up with Steve Berra to create the famous Berrics skatepark. The Berrics hosts their own website featuring a variety of online segments and videos with professionals, as well as the annual competition of the game of SKATE called the Battle at the Berrics.
