Zumiez: "As a veteran is it automatic every summer that you’re headed to Govy?"
Erik Leon: "It’s definitely not automatic every summer, but I do make it a goal to come and visit Government camp. I guess you could say I used to be a veteran when I was a teenager. Fourteen to maybe seventeen I visited MT Hood every single summer, and recently I have been taking breaks, just because I like my real summers, and I like to skate and I like to fish."
Zumiez: "What is the best snowboard destination you have hit up in your travels?"
Erik Leon: "The best snowboard destination I have been to in my travels would have to be Japan. It has all time powder; the people there are really nice and really respectable, they really admire us snowboarders being there."
Zumiez: "Why do you think so many snowboarders are fly fishers? "
Erik Leon: "I think that snowboarders are becoming fly fishermen because there is always a river in a mountain. They like to go into the backcountry and they like to Zen out, and find their little Zen in the trees, and stuff. Its kind of the same thing, you listen to the river flow. You got to go, you got to try it out. ."
Zumiez: "What aspect of your snowboarding has improved the most over the last couple years?"
Erik Leon: "Taking snowboarding seriously has become a huge factor, and I think I have learned that having fun is the most important part of whatever you are doing. Whether it’s running out of gas on a pass, or being freezing cold in Wyoming. Its all about having fun with your friends, that’s why you are there. "
