The history of Nike SB
In 1997, Nike began quietly using their brilliant shoe technology to create shoes exclusively designed for skateboarding, but it wasn't until 5 years had passed that Nike SB was born, in 2002. Nike SB (or, for those with more time, Nike Skateboarding) shoes were released with padded tongues and collars, and fitted with Zoom Air insoles, completely competitive to the insoles seen in other skate shoes at the time. In 2004, Nike SB signed Paul Rodriguez up to be figurehead to the Nike SB brand.
Also in 2004, Nike released the Nike Dunk SB collection due to increased popularity of skateboarding in California. Different from the old SB Dunk range in that there were a variety of changes made, designed specifically for skateboarding, including increased bruise-control padding and the trusty Zoom Air insoles. Also, the material quality was heightened further, including triple stitching, which of course is now the standard for shoes designed for full-blown skate park war-fare.
Nike SB has sponsored several pro skaters over the years, including Theotis Beasley, Shane O'Neill, Stefan Janoski, and Omar Salazar, as as well as touting the Nike SB Amateur Team, "Debacle".
