Another first…a renegade BFF stop in PHX

The second annual Zumiez Best Foot Forward Am Contest Series presented by Boost Mobile has grown legs of it’s own and we’re just getting started! Phoenix wasn’t on this year’s list as the Zumiez Couch Tour 2008 schedule was announced, but there was no way that we couldn’t come out to one of the best skate scenes in the country. We set up a one-stop renegade jam session event at the Rio Vista Skatepark just before the rest of the tour took off. New to BFF this year is an open qualifier at each Couch Tour stop for the first 20, who want to take that “one giant leap for Am kind”. It’s just another way that we can get more skaters involved in our events. Four of those guys advanced to our regular BFF invite contest for a chance to win an all expense paid trip to The Finals this year in Minneapolis and a $500 Zumiez gift certificate.

Back to the Phoenix stop…tricks were stomped down the 10 stair and rails! Alan Garrison had a smooth style and Jeff Smith had some unique flair with willy grinds and a board slide to feeble too. Quinton “Q-Tip” Hall was a crowd favorite as he landed all of his warm up tricks first try. John Kelley showed up late and got right into it with a front blunt to fakie. As the Arizona sun set, Chris Scimeca got third with tricks like a tail fakie and sticking noseblunts. Andrew Hamoki second with shuvit variations that also tagged him as the New Era Originator of the day. First place went to Ricky Nunn with tricks like kick flip front board and nollie bigspin back lip on the bank-to-bar. He earned the trip back to his hometown in Minneapolis to now represent Phoenix in the BFF Finals.
