Zumiez: "How did it feel to be amongst the top skaters in the running for Thrasher's 2012 SOTY"
Austyn Gillette: "I would say it was exciting, but I knew who I was up against, and what videos came out this year. So I kind of knew what was going to happen, but I don't know… who's the judge and jury of skateboarding."
Zumiez: "How does skating in LA differ from skating in SF?"
Austyn Gillette: "I enjoy SF a bit more, just because it's a little bit more difficult, and LA is kind of, a little bit blown out. So I guess that's the difference to me, so I try to seek the road less traveled."
Zumiez: "How does it feel being a homeowner? Does Daryl Angel pay his rent on time?"
Austyn Gillette: "Daryl Angel does pay his rent on time. Being a homeowner takes a lot of responsibility, and it takes a lot of my time up."
Zumiez: "How much input did you have in the design of your pro Habitat shoe?"
Austyn Gillette: "I would say about 70 percent. We worked on a shoe for 4 months maybe, and it didn't turn out how we wanted it, then we were in a hotel room one night, and then designed it in 5 minutes somehow."
Zumiez: "Any advice for the young bucks out there trying to live the dream?"
Austyn Gillette: "Keep your head up, hang in there, work hard, it will come, it will. I don't know…. Do your best!"
