What is the difference between a fleece jacket and a sherpa jacket?
Fleece jackets are made from synthetic polyester fabric - lightweight, quick-drying, and smooth on both sides. Sherpa jackets have that chunky, textured pile on one or both sides that mimics the look of shearling. Brands like Lurking Class and Stitch Fusion do both, so it really comes down to whether you want something slimmer and packable or thick and plush.
Is sherpa as warm as fleece?
Sherpa tends to run warmer than standard fleece because the thick pile traps more air - it's a better insulator when temps actually drop. Regular fleece wins on breathability and layering since it's thinner and more flexible under other jackets. If you're just dealing with a cold morning, fleece works fine; if you're trying to stay warm all day, sherpa's the move.
