Payments & Refunds
Zumiez accepts major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, PayPal, and Buy Now Pay Later services. You are never charged until your order ships. Below you'll find answers to common questions about payment methods, authorization holds, refunds, sales tax, and checkout issues.
Payment Methods
We accept the following payment methods:

Zumiez accepts Buy Now Pay Later as a payment option. All aspects of BNPL transactions; including payment, approval, and terms and conditions, are handled directly through the individual provider's site.
When You're Charged
You are never charged for an order until it actually ships. When you place an order, your bank places an authorization hold, a pending charge, on your account. This is standard practice and is not an actual charge.
The hold will drop off automatically within a few days, depending on your bank's policies. You will not see a credit on your account, the authorization will simply disappear. If your order is cancelled before it ships, the same thing happens: the hold drops off and it will be as if the order was never placed.
If you see what appears to be multiple charges, you are most likely seeing the authorization hold alongside a transaction that has already posted. Both will not be collected; once the order ships, only the actual charge remains.
Order Cancellations
We do our best to maintain accurate inventory, but occasionally an item sells out before your order can be fulfilled. If your order is cancelled, we will let you know as soon as possible.
Because you are never charged until an order ships, a cancelled order means no charge will be collected. Any authorization hold on your account will drop off within a few days.
Refunds
Refunds are processed back to your original form of payment. After our team processes the return, allow 3–5 business days for the refund to post to your account.
There are a few circumstances where a different refund method applies:
- ATM and debit card purchases — cash refunds are available in-store only.
- Credit card purchases — refunded to the original card. If the original card is not available, a gift card will be issued instead.
- PayPal purchases returned in-store — refunded by gift card. To receive a refund to your PayPal account, mail your return to the Returns Center. See returns and exchanges for mail-in instructions.
- In-store purchases mailed to the Returns Center — refunded by gift card. To receive a refund to your original payment method, bring the return to a Zumiez store.
- Gift card refunds over $10 — refunded by gift card.
Sales Tax
Zumiez operates stores in all 50 states and is required to collect state sales tax on orders shipped to those states. Sales tax on your order will display as TBD until you enter your zip code at checkout.
Tax rules vary by state - some states apply sales tax to both merchandise and shipping and handling, while others apply it to merchandise only. Your order reflects the rules of the state it's shipping to.
Orders shipped to U.S. territories are subject to applicable duties and taxes. See our special destinations shipping page for details.
No sales tax is charged on gift certificate purchases. The applicable sales tax is collected when and where the gift certificate is redeemed.
Order Security
Zumiez uses encryption on all transactions to protect your payment information and personal details at checkout.
Order verification
Occasionally, an order may be placed into verification if certain details don't match up. This is a fraud prevention step, we're confirming it's actually you placing the order. You'll receive a secure email asking you to verify some information. Reply with the requested details and our verification team will review your order as quickly as possible.
Unauthorized card use
If your card was used without your authorization on our site or in one of our stores, report it to your card provider or financial institution immediately. After you've contacted them, you can reach out to us so we can flag the incident with our fraud department. Please note that we are unable to share any information regarding fraudulent transactions.
Address Issues at Checkout
If you're getting an address validation error at checkout, it may be due to a new development, a rural address, or a typo. Double-check your address and select "Use Address As Entered" to proceed.
International orders
Our address validation system may not recognize address formats used in other countries. Enter your address exactly as it appears on mail you receive and select "Use Address As Entered." See our shipping destinations page to confirm we ship to your country.
Puerto Rico
If shipping to Puerto Rico, verify that United States is selected as the country and Puerto Rico is selected as the state, then select "Use Address As Entered." See shipping to Puerto Rico for more.
APO/FPO addresses
